  • Bruce Beresford, Asghar Farhadi to head Juries at Mumbai Film Festival 2013

    Academy-award winner Australian director Bruce Beresford ( Driving Miss Daisy, Double Jeopardy) will head the International Competition Jury of the 15th Mumbai Film Festival. Bruce Beresford will be accompanied by French actor Nathalie Baye (Catch Me if You Can), Japanese director Masato Harada (Chronicle of my Mother) and Indian actor Konkana Sen Sharma (Mr. And Mrs. Iyer, Omkara) on the International Jury. Academy Award winner Iranian director Asghar Farhadi ( A Separation, About Elly) will head the India Gold 2013 competition Jury of the festival. The other members of the Jury are Afghani director Siddiq Barmark (Osama), British actor/director Waris Hussein (Little Gloria…Happy at last), Australian Film Editor Jill Bilcock (Moulin Rouge) and film critic Roger Garcia who is also the executive director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival. The 15th Mumbai Film Festival will take place from the 17th – 24, October 2013 at Metro Cinema and Liberty Cinemas as the main festi.

  • Call for applications: Primexchange Europe India Co-Production Workshop

    Berlin-based PrimeHouse GmbH announced a Call for Applications for the 5th Edition of Primexchange 2013 Europe India Co-Production Workshop. Primexchange is a co-production initiative that provides a forum for independent European and Indian producers to engage in an open and collaborative environment, using a fully integrated approach to further develop film projects. The Workshop is directed at producers of feature length films in advanced stages of development. Minimum requirements for participation in the workshop are a first draft screenplay and a finance plan. Five producers from Europe and five from India will be selected to join the Workshop. The workshop will take place from November 18th – 24th 2013, within the framework of NFDC Film Bazaar in Goa, India. Application deadline is noon (GMT) 27th September, 2013.   • Six Indian films at Montreal World Cinema Festival

    Four Indian feature films and two short films will be screened at the 37th Montreal World Film Festival to be held from 22 Aug — 2 Sep, 2013. All the films will be screened in Focus on World Cinema section that includes 105 features, 1 medium length and 110 short films. Chittagong by Bedabrata Pain, Filmistaan by Nitin Kakkar, Monsoon Shootout by Amit Kumar and Papilio Buddha by Jayan K. Cherian are the feature films. While the first three are festival regulars, Papilio Buddha is the story of a group of displaced dalits in the Western Ghats of India. The Malayalam-language film has been refused a censor certificate from the CBFC for its content denigrating Mahatma Gandhi, visuals of extreme violence against a woman and severe use of expletives, among other reasons Short film Tau Seru by Rodd Rathjen (India-Australia) which premiered at Cannes Critics Week is also part of the lineup along with Shri Hanuman Chalisa (Forty Hymns of Faith) by Charuvi Agrawal. .
